Swinton Academy is part of ACET (Aston Community Education Trust). Aston Community Education Trust (ACET) is a not for profit charity established since May 2011, which sponsors primary and secondary academies in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire. The Trust is one single organisation made up of all our academies which share the same vision and values. Swinton Academy hosts a specialist SEND ASD provision. 26% of students are eligible for FSM.
School goals and ambitions
We want to foster a culture of independence amongst all students within the academy, who are willing to make mistakes and learn from failure. We need to develop a way for students to recover quickly from the difficulties life may bring. This may involve learning how to cope mentally and physically so that they ‘spring back into shape’; having the ability to be happy and successful, after something difficult or bad has happened.
We want to develop ownership for all students over their own learning and behaviour by being organised and responsible for themselves. We would like to ensure students are supported in being accountable for their own progress and achievements.

Impact school context
We have worked on trying to foster a culture of resilience across the academy by using resilience in as many student situations as possible. We have introduced an assembly programme and curriculum which helps to focus student thinkinag about how they deal with certain situations and encourgaing coping strategies to help with taking responsibility and bouncing back. This process is not complete and we are in a period of change as an academy so this work will continue into the next academic year. We always said this was more than an award and so would be progressive rather than simply something we work on now.
